John McKenzie


Long time overseas Aid & Development worker who is active in the Permafund group.  He began aid work in south India in the late 1980’s supporting a school project in Hyderabad, then a tribal community project in the Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu.  He was part of the team that put an early version of Permafund together – PGAN and led the design of the original permaculture project in Cuba in the early 1990’s.  From 2000 to 2009 he worked for World Vision in a range of assignments, and since as a consultant for various NGO’s in various countries including Peru, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Haiti, Lebanon.

John has been around the permaculture movement since the 1980’s and been a long term organiser and committee member for both PcVic, PA and Permafund.

He grew up in outer urban Melbourne first working on farms and building sites then in schools and international aid projects. He is currently working as a handyman, and assisting an urban agriculture project in south eastern Melbourne and supporting a nearby secondary school with an outdoor skills project.
